Getting started
Do I need to know my level before I start?
No. A placement check of about fifteen minutes — reading, listening and a short spoken sample — puts you on the right level. Starting a learner too high or too low is the most common way a first month gets wasted.
What happens in a trial lesson?
A shorter first lesson where the tutor assesses where you are and you find out whether you can work with them. If the fit is wrong, switch tutors and keep all your progress, vocabulary and history.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Lessons, mock tests and your dashboard all run in the browser. The mobile app is optional and mainly useful for practice in short gaps.

Can I change tutor?
At any time, without explaining why. Your course progress, vocabulary queue and score history belong to your account, not to a particular tutor.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancel or reschedule free of charge outside the notice window shown on the booking. Inside it, the lesson is charged, because the tutor has held that hour.
What if my tutor does not turn up?
The lesson is refunded automatically and you are offered a replacement slot. You do not have to open a ticket to trigger that.
Are lessons recorded?
Only if both people agree in advance. Recording someone without their explicit agreement breaks the community guidelines and can end an account.
Exams
Are the mock tests like the real exam?
They run to the real format — section timers, listening audio that plays once, and answers locked when time expires. A score from an untimed practice set does not tell you much.
How accurate are the band estimates?
Reading and listening are objectively marked and reliable. Writing and speaking are estimated against the published descriptors and shown as a range, because a human examiner may place you a half band either side.
Can Learniv guarantee a score?
No, and be sceptical of anywhere that does. What a platform can honestly do is show you where you currently stand and which section is costing you the most.
Money
How does pricing work?
Tutors set their own rates, shown on their profile before you book. Courses are priced individually and some are free. There is no mandatory subscription to book a lesson.
Can I get a refund?
Unused lesson credits are refundable. A lesson that ran as booked is not, though if something went wrong in it, raise it with support and it will be looked at properly.
Do credits expire?
No.
