Most tutors join for one-to-one work, but it is not the only route — and some of the others suit people who want predictable hours rather than a flexible diary.
Open routes
One-to-one tutoring
The main route. You set your rate and hours, learners book you directly, and you are paid per lesson taught. Contract, not employment.
Exam preparation
IELTS, PTE, TOEFL and CELPIP candidates working to a deadline. Higher rates and steadier bookings, and examiner experience is a strong advantage.
Corporate cohorts
Group teaching for companies training their staff. Fixed schedule over a term, guaranteed hours, and a reporting requirement one-to-one work does not have.
Curriculum and marking
Non-teaching work for experienced tutors: writing week-by-week course plans, authoring exam items, or marking writing and speaking submissions.
Terms, plainly
What you are signing up to, before you spend time on an application.
Tutors work as independent contractors, not employees. You invoice through the platform, you are responsible for your own tax in your own country, and nothing here restricts you from teaching elsewhere. There is no exclusivity clause.
Platform commission is a fixed percentage, stated before you join and unchanged by how many lessons you teach. There is no listing fee, no charge to have a profile, and no paid placement — you cannot buy your way up the search results, and neither can anyone else.
Corporate and curriculum work is contracted separately, with agreed hours and a rate set in advance rather than by you per lesson.
